How to use PetPassage

PetPassage is a public trip-prep checker for people travelling with a dog, cat, or ferret within the EU or between Great Britain and the EU. It is designed to turn the main official rule patterns into a faster planning view before you book or travel.

What it checks

  • Route direction: EU to EU, Great Britain to EU, or EU to Great Britain
  • Pet type: dog, cat, or ferret
  • Likely document path for the route
  • Microchip order and rabies timing basics
  • Dog tapeworm-treatment timing where that commonly matters
  • Common private-travel limits such as owner timing and pet-count rules

What it does not check

  • Live border decisions or carrier acceptance
  • Breed bans, carrier policies, or company-specific pet restrictions
  • Commercial movement, adoption, sale, transfer of ownership, or rescue relocation workflows
  • Every special case for young animals, emergency disease measures, or Northern Ireland-specific movement rules
  • Veterinary fitness-to-travel decisions

How to use the checker

  1. Choose the route and pet type.
  2. Enter your planned travel date.
  3. Add the details you know already: microchip, rabies date, document path, and any tapeworm treatment timing for dogs.
  4. Review the result status, route snapshot, timing checks, and next steps.
  5. Confirm the final live rules with the official source and your carrier before departure.

How to read the result

  • Likely ready: your answers broadly fit the usual prep path, but you still need a final live check.
  • Needs action: something important looks missing, late, early, or wrong for the normal route.
  • Check carefully: the trip may still work, but a human review is needed.
  • Not covered: the journey appears outside the simplified private-travel scope.

When to contact a vet or authority

  • The rabies history is unclear or the booster may have lapsed
  • You need an animal health certificate or document timing confirmed
  • Your dog may need tapeworm treatment and timing must be exact
  • You are travelling with more than five pets or the owner will not travel with the pet
  • The trip includes a special route, Northern Ireland, or a commercial element
